Saint John the Evangelist, whose feast is celebrated on December 27th, is the patron of our parish.
It is God who calls, and the person responds. The vocation of John is stated very simply in the Gospels:
Jesus called them; they followed, His response was absolute. James and John were in the boat with their father, Zebedee, mending their nets. " Immediately He called them. They left their father Zebedee in the boat and followed Him."
That faith was rewarded by a special freindship with Jesus for the three former fishermen - Peter, James and John were priviledge to be present at the Transfiguration. John's freindship was even more special. His own Gospel refers to him as the "disciple whom Jesus loved."
Because of the depth of his Gospel, John is usually thought of as eagle of theology, soaring in high regions that other writers did not enter. John is, of course, best known for his great Gospel, the letters, and Book of Revelation.
